LIMA 'S' art centre was created to preserve and to expand the appreciation of Sundanese culture in Indonesia and abroad. Our mandate focuses on the material culture and language (basa sunda) practised by the Sundanese people, the second most populous ethnic group in Indonesia. Their ancestral home lies in the highlands (Parahyangan) of the provinces of Jawa Barat (West Java) and Banten, on the island of Java, Indonesia. Lima means five and S refers to the art center name : Sanggar Seni Sumber Sa'adat Sunda. The LIMA 'S' mission is to collect and digitalize various aspects of Sundanese music and related performing arts, and literature. The LIMA 'S' website will publish a part of this archive collected in the field during more than seven years of research in the Sundanese homeland.
